Overview

Columbia Southern University (CSU), located in Orange Beach, Alabama was established in 1993 to provide quality distance academic courses. The school was one of the first universities that operated online and was established to provide flexible academic classes to working students who were unable to attend normal classes. The first academic courses introduced by the University were Safety and Environmental Management degrees.

Since its establishment, the university has continued on its growth path and now offers various types of undergraduate and graduate degrees. Furthermore, the institution has partnered with a number of organizations, who in turn provide alumni connections, training and tuition discounts to the university students.

Academic Programs Offered

The academic programs availed by Columbia Southern University cater for students from various professional and education backgrounds. The university provides Associate degrees in the following fields: Business, General Education, Fire Science and Criminal Justice. Other academic programs provided by the school include Hospitality and Tourism, Finance, Health Care Administration, Occupational Safety and Health, Psychology and Information Technology.

Columbia Southern University also provides Masters of Business Administration courses in Finance, Project Management, Sports Management, Marketing and Health Care Administration. Other masters programs include Criminal Justice Administration, Occupational Safety and Health as well as Masters of Science in Organizational Leadership. The school also offers a doctoral degree in Business administration.

Columbia Southern University Accreditation

Accreditation gives the public confidence about the university’s overall academic, financial and administrative structure. Columbia Southern University has been accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC).

CSU is also accredited by Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and has been licensed by the State of Alabama, Department of Post Secondary Education. With the accreditation, students do not have to worry about the quality of the education provided and the authenticity of the degree certificates.

Tuition Fees and Financial Aid

For undergraduate degrees, the tuition fees charged by the university is $195 per credit hour. For graduate programs, the tuition fee is $ 260. On the other hand, doctorate students will have to pay $ 295 for every credit hour. CSU provides various financial aids to students including Pells Grants, which is only available for undergraduate students.

There is also the Academic Competitiveness Grant which is available for first and second year undergraduate students. Other financial programs include the Federal Family Education Loans, Stafford Loans and Graduate PLUS Loans.

Through the CSU Students Center, the university allows students can interact with the greater university community. Students have access to university news, career center, student testimonials, student handbook, university blackboard and more at the Students Center.
